Mexico Amigo Mariachi
In 1987, Jorge Lopez was invited to participate in the recording of Linda Ronstadt's Las Canciones de mi Padre. In working with the greatest Mariachi band of all time, Mariachi Vargas, Jorge had the idea of forming his own Mariachi band, due to the lack of authentic representation of Mariachi music in Canada at the time. In 1988 Jorge began training musicians in traditional Mexican folk music. This gave birth to MEXICO AMIGO. Since then, they have evolved into a professional working ensemble, eager to bring Mexico's native music to the public.

Cascabel Latin Jazz
CASCABEL was formed in 1990 and came from Jorge's wanting to break away from the relatively strict boundaries of traditional Mariachi, and focus on the smooth styling of Latin and Gypsy music. Jorge Lopez & Cascabel express Latin music styles in a manner consistent with the meaning of its name. Cascabel has several meanings; it is a rattlesnake found in the Central American badlands, a chili pepper and a child's musical rattle. Jorge Lopez: Soloist
A proud son of Mexico City, Jorge Lopez has spent his life studying and mastering the guitar. He inherited his love of the classical guitar from his father Gustavo Lopez, who was a student and assistant of the greatest guitarist of all times, Andres Segovia. Gustavo was among the first to record classical guitar in Mexico. One of his recordings, "Voice of Mexico", which he recorded under the name Gustavo Zepoll, is now the only guitar recording in the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. Read More
